FIA European Drag Racing Championship: Title fights to go down to the wire at Santa Pod
The FIA European Drag Racing Championship reaches its climax with the European Finals at Santa Pod Raceway this weekend.
In Top Fuel, Ida Zetterström is the overwhelming favorite to win the title. The Swedish driver has won two of the four races so far this season and has a 100-point lead over Susanne Callin. Zetterström only needs to make one qualifying run at Santa Pod to secure the title.
The title fight in Pro Modified is also likely to go down to the wire. Jan Ericsson leads the championship, but David Vegter is only 122 points behind. Ericsson can clinch the title with a win at Santa Pod, but Vegter will be hoping to spoil his party.
The title fight in Top Methanol is still wide open. Linn Fløysvik leads the championship, but Silvio Strauch is only 16 points behind. Sandro Bellio is another driver who could challenge for the title.
The title fight in Pro Stock is also too close to call. Stefan Ernryd leads the championship, but Michael Malmgren is only 12 points behind. Robin Norén is also in contention, but he will be starting the weekend from a car that has been borrowed after his own car was damaged in a crash.
Qualifying for the European Finals will start on Friday 8th September and will continue on Saturday 9th September. Eliminations will start on Sunday morning 10th September.
