It’s qualifying day for the “greatest spectacle in all of auto racing” Well that’s what the Yanks say anyway, yes it’s the Indianapolis 500.
This year’s race has added international appeal with the addition of Formula One star Fernando Alonso who will miss the Monaco Grand Prix to compete in his first oval track race. The Spanish driver has looked right at home since his first laps of the track and with consistent laps in the top five even some US observers are starting to give him an outside chance of victory in the great race.
But he’ll have plenty of opposition from the series regulars including Will Power who is still searching for his first Indy 500 win in his otherwise successful Indycar career.
Live coverage of the qualifying is online this weekend with next weekends race available in Australia via Pay TV.
